Emergency Pain Relief

Emergency Dental Pain Relief in Bentleigh East

In some scenarios, antibiotics may be recommended to reduce the amount of infection/pain before appropriate dental treatment is commenced. Regardless of what course of action must be taken, we will keep you informed with our findings each step of the way and do everything we can to relieve your pain in the fastest, most effective way possible.

When handling emergency dental needs, our main goal is to ensure that you are not in pain. That’s why we have dedicated emergency appointments every day. We also have dental appointments available on Saturdays. Pain medications such as paracetamol and ibuprofen can help to manage pain temporarily.

FAQ About Emergency Dental Pain Relief

If you live in or near Bentleigh East and you are suffering from a toothache, a dentist can be available to assist you with pain relief at Chesterville Dental, even outside of normal operating hours. We endeavour to book you in on the same day so that your pain can be relieved as soon as possible and determine the cause of that pain.

How Can You Ease my Dental Pain?

We have incorporated many modern techniques to help reduce your discomfort as much as possible during dental treatment. We always include the use of topical anaesthetic when necessary and our “computer guided tooth anaesthesia system” also known as “the wand”.

Topical anaesthetic is a cream/liquid that provides spot anaesthesia (numbing). This is more comfortable and almost painless compared to the alyernative.

At Chesterville dental, a topical anaesthetic is always used prior to dental injections. The majority of painful injections are a result of pressure buildup from injecting liquid into the oral mucosa. The wand (computer-guided local anaesthesia) is a computerised injection that slowly infuses anaesthetic into any site without eliciting a pressure buildup that can cause pain.

When is it an Emergency?

Your situation is considered an emergency if you are suffering from excessive pain in your gums or from one or more of your teeth.

What would cause my dental pain?

Pain from your mouth can manifest itself in many different ways. Some toothaches can range from minor discomfort or sensitivity to excruciating pain with facial swelling. A toothache can be caused by many different reasons, including:

Dental cavity
Infection with a tooth
Gum disease
Cracked tooth
Wisdom teeth infection
Dental trauma
Many more…

If left untreated, toothaches may become worse over time and treatment will become more complicated and expensive. If you require an emergency dentist, visit us at our Bentleigh East dental clinic or contact Chesterville Dental on (03) 9570 7962 and we will try our very best to accommodate you. If you’re in the wider Bentleigh or bayside area, Chesterville Dental is here to help.

Is a Root Canal Considered an Emergency?

Under circumstances where the patient is suffering pain, an infected root canal is considered an emergency dental problem. Minimising the pain is the first priority, however, and we would prioritise root canal treatment appointments over those not suffering dental pain.

What Can I Do Until I Can See a Dentist?

If you have dental pain or have broken a tooth but can’t see a dentist right away, avoid chewing with that side of your mouth and take appropriate pain medicine. Holding an ice pack to swelling should help it to subside.

It is a good idea to ask your dentist what type of over-the-counter pain medication is appropriate. That may help ease the pain even if it doesn’t completely mask it.

What If I Had a Tooth Knocked Out?

Clean the tooth gently with saliva or milk and try your best to reposition it. and then rush to the dentist. Otherwise, if you do not want to reposition it get to a dentist immediately while keeping the tooth in your mouth in a pool of saliva or in milk.

NEVER put your tooth in water.
