Wisdom teeth are the 3rd molars in your mouth. They usually come through your gums around the age of 17-25 years old, although there are circumstances at which they erupt at a much younger or older age. Due to the modern diet consisting of softer and more refined foods, human jaws do not commonly grow large enough to accommodate these molars. In some cases, these molars may get stuck- commonly referred to as an impacted wisdom tooth. This can become a serious issue as it can lead to infections, pain, swelling and in some cases damage to the adjacent teeth.
